In a nutshell cellulite is dimpled areas of your skin caused by fatty deposits just underneath the surface of the skin. Most commonly cellulite is seen around the hips, on the upper thighs, buttocks, your lower stomach and on your arms. The amount of cellulite on your body can vary, sometimes it is so minimal as to not even be noticeable, other times it can be extremely severe. It is important to understand that cellulite is not caused by obesity. All women suffer from cellulite, no matter how thin they are. It has to do with how fat is stored in the body, as well as a weakening of the connective tissue in your skin that allows the fatty deposits to rise up through the skin and become noticeable. Water retention and toxins in the fatty tissues also contribute to the appearance of cellulite.

Many individuals these days are eager to know cellulite definition probably because they have encountered this term before but remain completely unfamiliar. Cellulite is defined as a fatty deposit that causes uneven or dimpled appearance commonly around buttocks and thighs. This is also a condition on which the human skin displays areas with underlying fats that results lumpy appearance on particular parts of the body. Cellulite starts to become more visible when individuals reach the age of puberty.

This condition is being linked to several terms leading some individuals into confusion with regards to cellulite definition. Cellulite is also being termed as dermopanniculosis deformans, status protrusus cutis, adiposis edematosa, and gynoid lipodystrophy. In the medical field, this condition is also referred to as hail damage, cottage-cheese skin and orange peeling syndrome. Cellulite is usually classified based on the following grade:

  • Grade 1-the condition is seen without any clinical symptom, however, a microscopic cell examination can detect anatomical changes.
  • Grade 2-skin starts to show pastiness, decrease in temperature and elasticity and microscopic examinations note the underlying anatomical changes.
  • Grade 3-cellulite starts to display visible skin roughness along with the Grade 2 signs.
     

Cellulite can affect both female and male but studies shows that higher number of cases are noted in female. This condition is not that harmful however, individuals wanted to get rid of this because of the unpleasing appearance. Suffering from this condition does not necessarily mean that individuals are overweight. Even slim individuals can have these fatty deposits. In case you are overweight, losing weight can help reduce cellulite.

The factors that trigger this condition are fad dieting, poor diet, hormonal factors, slow metabolism and more. Cellulite is a particular condition that can be treated by cellulite creams. In  some cases, liposuction, Mesotherapy, laser treatments, spa treatments and other recommended procedures.
